Competitor Detection

Identifies the businesses actually competing with you in search results, not just any site that happens to share a few keywords.

Real numbers from an actual audit: what share of each site’s total keywords overlap with the business being audited.

How it works

We start from your top organic search competitors, domains that also rank for keywords you rank for. But raw keyword overlap alone is misleading: a huge, unrelated site covering many categories will share hundreds of keywords with almost any business simply because it’s enormous, not because it’s actually your competitor.

To fix this, we calculate what fraction of each candidate’s own total search visibility overlaps with yours, and use that to filter out incidental matches. A site focused on your exact market sharing 500 keywords out of 6,000 total is heavily concentrated in your space, a real competitor. An unrelated large site sharing those same 500 keywords out of 600,000 total isn’t meaningfully focused on your market at all, even though the raw numbers looked similar, so it gets filtered out.

Among the genuine competitors that remain, we then rank by how many keywords you actually share, not by that concentration percentage. A large, established competitor naturally has a broader overall keyword portfolio than a small niche shop, so ranking by concentration alone would unfairly bury well-known market leaders under obscure smaller sites. Ranking by shared keyword count instead keeps the competitors that matter most at the top.

What this means for you

The competitors we show are companies actually fighting for your customers, not e-commerce giants or social platforms that happen to also show up in search results for unrelated reasons.

Known limitation

This only ranks and filters competitors already present in the underlying search data. If a competitor you know personally doesn’t appear, their search visibility for your specific keywords is too low to register yet, not that we missed them.
